Surfing contests are very entertaining for participants and spectators. This year the Texas Gulf Coast Association held the state championships here in South Padre Island.

Kite Surfing Contests

There are a few kiteboarding contests that happen on or near South Padre Island. One annual kite fest that is a huge draw for kiteboarding enthusiasts of all skill levels is the SPI Kite Round-Up. It is generally scheduled at the beginning of May every year, and hosts contests, clinics, demos and other fun activities.
